Slow Cooker Chicken Stew

This is again another lazy man's dish.  Using the slow cooker can really help when you're busy with other household chores.  Just dump all the ingredients in the pot, give them a good stir, turn on the power and wait patiently.....I did mine at noon and it was smelling good after 4 hours on high heat.  I used some Korean bean paste in this stew and the chicken was so tender, even toothless senior citizens would be able to enjoy it :) Recipe for Slow Cooker Chicken Stew Ingredients 1/2  chicken, about 500 gm, cut into bite size 2 potatoes, cut into chunks 1 carrot, cut into chunks 1 onion, quartered 9 Shitake mushrooms, soaked and stemmed 3 to 4 dried chillies, soaked till soft 5 cloves of garlic 3/4 cup water 2 tsp sesame oil 2 tsp Shaoxing wine Cornflour to thicken the sauce Sauce 1 Tbsp Korean soya bean paste 1 Tbsp  Oyster sauce 3/4 Tbsp brown sugar 3/4 Tbsp honey 1/8 cup light soya sauce 1/4...

Slow Cooker Mixed Spice Pork

I'm trying to make more use of my slow-cooker which has been in hibernation far too long and if you don't crank up your electrical appliances once in a while, they may decide to go on strike!  To make cooking a meal for my family more hassle free, I concocted this recipe for Mixed Spice Pulled Pork which pairs well with rice and some blanched vegetables on the side.  The spices and sauces that I dumped into the slow cooker were reduced to a rich and flavourful sauce in 5 hours on medium heat. Recipe for Slow Cooker Mixed Spice Pork Ingredients 800 gm pork shoulder 2 Tbsp brown sugar 2 Bay leaves 1 cinnamon stick 4 cloves 2 star anise 1/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper 2 cups water 1 Tbsp cornflour 1 tsp chicken granules Seasalt to taste Sauces :  1 tsp dark soya sauce and 2 tsp light soya sauce Method Season the pork with seasalt and freshly ground pepper. Heat oil in a pan, add pork to pan-fry, tu...

Slow Cooker Braised Chicken and Feet

Braised chicken feet in black bean sauce is a common sight at Dim Sum restaurants and most of  the time they are pre-fried. Being the lazy me, I just dumped them into the slow cooker together with the chicken, added in some spices and let them mingle together while I attended to my other household chores.  I put the slow cooker on 'high', attended to it some three hours later and after adjusting the taste, it was ready to be served. Recipe for Slow Cooker Braised Chicken and Chicken Feet Ingredients 300 gm chicken feet 400 gm chicken, cut to bite size 3 slices ginger 8 cloves, garlic, crushed 3 dried chillies soaked in water to soften 3 star anise 4  tsp light soya sauce 1  tsp each of dark soya sauce, rock sugar and seasalt 2.1/2 cups water 2  tsp cornflour + sauce to thicken Method Season the chicken pieces with some salt, light and dark soya sauce, set aside. Blanch the chicken feet in boiling water for about 10...
